I'm writing to invite you and your youth to this community-educational event: a Youth-Led District Attorney Candidate Forum this Friday, 10/25, 5-7pm at the Bayview Opera House. It is the only youth-led forum and the only forum being held in the Bayview. On Nov. 5th, San Francisco voters can elect our next District Attorney, who oversees prosecution for matters of crime and immigration, with the ability to greatly influence and stop the cycles of mass incarceration and criminalization of young people. We are hoping for 100 young people to attend and the program is designed for young people to ask questions of the candidates or share stories about their experiences with police or the juvenile justice system.
The event is being put on my Youth-Making a Change (Y-MAC) of Coleman Advocates and is co-sponsored by the Young Women's Freedom Center, LYRIC, Huckleberry Youth Programs, the Youth Commission, Youth MOJO of the Chinese Progressive Association, and Operation Genesis. Here is an excellent educational video, "Meet Your DA", narrated by John Legend, to show your students what a DA does. Here is the Eventbrite which will help us estimate how many people to order food for. Here is the Facebook event. Can you help spread the word? Special Guests include Forum Moderators Earlonne Woods and Nigel Poor, co-hosts and producers of The Ear Hustle Podcast (for identification only). Various organizations will be tabling and the Dept. of Elections will be registering youth to vote. Dinner, interpretation (Spanish & Cantonese), and childcare are provided. Please let me know if you and your youth can attend! A general headcount will help us ensure we order enough food.
In solidarity,
Celi
